Planning a Successful Pop Up Flower Market

business community floral design floristry business

When I first started building my flower business, I had no social media following, no testimonials, no prior jobs to reference and no shop window to attract new customers. It was tough work making sales.

I knew I needed to get my brand out there, meet some new customers and get my flowers into the hands of my local community. So, I took a chance on a local market that hosted a variety of food stalls, local crafts, art and homewares.

Even though my dream was to be a wedding florist, it was such a great opportunity to make some money and meet potential clients. I handed out my DIY business cards, chatted to anyone who came within 5 metres and spent all of my profits on tasty food trucks and cute ceramics.

I don't think I made ANY money at all but it was such a great experience, I learnt SO much and I met so many new people in my community.

Pop-ups are a great way to dip your toes in the flower industry, find new customers and build your brand.

The advantages of a bricks and mortar store in a busy high foot traffic area when you're a retail florist is that your shop is a billboard. It's a constant visual reminder for cars driving past, people walking dogs, local business's and your community.

Imagine a Super Bowl ad playing everytime someone is within a hundred metres of your shop.

When your business is online only you have to turn to social media and any other form of marketing. You don't have the physical reminder that people can see that you exist, that they can buy still flowers from you. Buying flowers can often come down to conveniece, when someone remmebers it's their sister's birthday and they forgot to buy a gift, they can grab them on the way home from work, easily pick them up or organise a delivery while it's front of mind.

If you're starting out, perhaps you're struggling to make sales or your online following isn't growing, or you aren’t seeing repeat customers as a retail florist. Then a pop up market store is a great idea for you!

This is to help make yourself visible to the community. It's going to expand your market and build your brand awareness, align you with the other businesses in the area. Whether you're doing a local craft market or fruit and veg markets or even setting up a cute stand at the cafe around the corner.
